When flying solo gets Obi Wan into a world of trouble, it will take help from an old friend to see him safely where he needs to go.
Obi-Wan Kenobi has an idea. With the help of his new little droid friend, the former Jedi scans through the ships map of the galaxy. He specifically hunts for Imperial control in areas of the galaxy that contain secret Jedi libraries. The older the better.
He leaves the scan running and gets some rest. He is once again plagued by visions of Mace Windu’s final days. When he awakes, the scan is complete. There’s only one library that fits his requirements. It will have to do. It will also have to wait. As he sets a course, a group of Bounty Hunters descend, hunting Black Krrsantan. Kenobi tries to escape, but finds he is cornered in an asteroid field. As all hope seems lost, he is hailed. A familiar voice:
Jango Fett.
Obi-Wan prepares to be boarded, but Jango tells him to power down completely. To avoid being a target. Kenobi does as he is bid. As he does, two small fighter ships join the fray, dispatching the Bounty Hunters. When Kenobi welcomes his saviours aboard, he’s faced with a familiar face. Clone Captain Rex. The recognition is instant, and Kenobi has his lightsaber ready.
Once the two have made peace regarding Rex’s inhibitor chip, Kenobi talks down Rex’s excitement that the Jedi will be joining the fight. He has a fight of his own. Rex understands, Kenobi never did anything with a short sight. Seeing the Jedi is alone, however, he insists on joining his former Commander safely to his destination. Reluctantly, Kenobi accepts.
The two ageing soldiers travel to the distant Library planet. Abandoned and forgotten without the Jedi to maintain it. It’s also ransacked. As they stalk the library, Kenobi notices that only the older, darker tomes and archives have been vandalised. Whoever attacked didn’t do so randomly. Whatever they did left remnants of a magic Obi Wan is unfamiliar with.
The deeper they go, the more they are plagued. Visions. Apparitions. Their darkest moments laid bare before them. After witnessing the death of the Duchess Satine in front of him, Kenobi stumbles out of his vision and into a chasm. Purple bolts of energy flare up the walls of the cave, originating from a single spot at the bottom of the chasm.
Carefully descending, they spot an altar. Atop the altar, seemingly generating the purple energy, is a body. Pulling back the shawl, Rex reveals that the body to be the corpse of Mace Windu. The Clone immediately blames the witches of Dathomir, they must be trying to resurrect the Jedi Master. Kenobi disagrees. It’s been many years since Windu’s demise, but look at him. He’s older.
Kenobi holds a hand over Windu, sensing for signs of life. Windu wakes! The Jedi and the Clone are thrust back against the chasm walls as Windu screams. When they’ve recovered, Windu is again unconscious.
As the two deliberate whether removing Windu is a good idea, they are visited. Bur Gund, the purple robed woman previously seen in a hologram, calmly informs the Jedi and Clone that the “Violus Imperi” will stay where he is. Chaos Tamer. The language of the old days, the Dark Times. Did the Jedi never wonder why Windu’s lightsaber was purple? He was a guardian, a long line of custodians of Chaos. His charge was simple:
Prevent the return of Chaos to the galaxy. Gund’s cult is not concerned with light or dark in the Force, only chaos. Bur Gund offers Kenobi her hand. She would resurrect Windu to unleash on the Empire. Their ordered dogma is an insult to her people. The vacuum of their sudden end would fuel the Vitari cult for the next age.
The heroes refuse. Rex takes Windu’s body from the altar, and the two try to escape.
Bur Gund unleashes her creatures of chaos upon the escaping heroes. Their escape is hindered, upturned, and otherwise interrupted. With the end in sight, Gund reveals her final trump card. She wakes Mace Windu.
Crazed, Windu becomes violent. He is, however, unpractised, and clumsy. He’s pulsing with violet energy. He doesn’t recognise either man before him. Even in this state, Kenobi and Rex struggle to restrain Mace. Through some skill and no amount of luck, the crazed Jedi is knocked unconscious.
Gund allows them to escape. She can be patient, her little droid is still onboard.
