When the apocalypse comes, it forces everyone to make changes. But when a beautician to the stars learns of the coming doom, he finds himself woefully ill-equipped to make the long journey home to his family.
01 – Ordinary World
The Protagonist deals with shallow, high-flying customers and helps them ‘improve’ their image. He hates it, much preferring to use the products and skills at his disposal to help ‘elevate’ the images his clients already have.
02 – Call to Adventure
A natural disaster sparks a parasitic outbreak that threatens all human life. It spreads fast and without mercy.
03 - Refusal of the Call
Protagonist goes to work, even as his family beg him to come home. He can’t get there, it’s logistically tricky and his customers need him.
04 – Meeting the Mentor
The salon owner says she’s not scared about the apocalypse. If anything, it’ll make them busier than ever as every weakling will be coming to them to make them look like warlords.
05 – Crossing the Threshold
As the local infrastructure starts to fail, Protagonist decides he really should go home and be with his family.
06 – Tests, Allies, Enemies
The journey starts rough. First, he is robbed after a car thief spots him as an easy mark. He’s then abducted by a gang that want to steal the little dignity he has left. He’s then rescued from the gang by a kindly group that declare he’s too vulnerable to be left alone in this big dangerous world.
07 – Approach to the Inmost Cave
Protagonist, sick of being patronised and attacked for the worlds perceived view of him, decides the only way to get home without incident is to do exactly as the salon owner said, make a weakling look like a warlord.
08 – The Ordeal
After initial success with his new look, one group he encounters decides to challenge his supposed toughness. The mask slips, and the gang decide he’s too weak to be left alive.
09 – Reward, Seizing the Sword
Somehow, in the fight that follows, Protagonist comes out on top. He kills the gang leader, which sends his lackies running.
10 – The Road Back
Empowered by his ability to win, even when presenting a weak person to the world, Protagonist continues his journey as himself, allowing his apparent weakness to lull would-be attackers into a false sense of security.
11 – Resurrection
After much fighting, near death experiences, and building a new arsenal of personalised weapons and armour, Protagonist arrives at his parents’ house. When his parents see him, however, they’re initially terrified.
12 – Return With Elixir
Protagonist, safe inside his parents’ home, goes to his childhood bedroom. As he surveys his reflection in his old mirror, he notices he looks so like the fake persona he created to survive. This time, however, it’s really him, just ‘elevated’.
